It's the First Day of School!
Elaina and Carter have been SO ready for school to start. I, on the other hand, feel totally blindsided. The summer went too fast, and suddenly the first day of school is already upon us? Unreal. But they looked so cute, marching to the bus stop in their new duds. That was one of my favorite things about the first day of school: shiny, new tennis shoes that nearly blinded people when in direct sunlight. I also remember going back-to-school shopping with my mom, and her nearly dying when I told her I wanted some $20 jeans. She said that was outrageous. (Never mind the going rate for Guess jeans in those days- it would have sent her over the edge!)
So tell me: what are some of your memories from elementary school? Any first-day traditions when you were growing up, or great stories from those young, impressionable years? I'd love to hear them!

I remember, EVERY year I tried to be shy and mysterious on the first day of school so people would wonder who I was. I tried to keep it up EVERY day but, it never worked. Yes, the new clothes too. But, mostly I remember the supplies! (I love the smell of new school supplies!)
We both have flip flop tans!
School memories? We did the whole new backpack, new shoes, lunchbox etc. I loved it! But the best part of the first day of school was getting to see who was really in your class and hoping that your desk was near someone remotely cool.
Misty, I know what you mean- I love the smell of a fresh box of Crayons!
And inevitably, Rebecca, I always got stuck sitting next to the dorks. Sigh. And now I need a picture of your tan lines!
I always loved the back to school shopping. My mom would drag us all over the place, in and out of dressing rooms until we had enough jeans, sweaters and shoes to last the year!
My fondest memory of school is riding my banana seat bike everyday to and from school. School was fun, sure, but for me it was my sweet ride. I remember no bike before, or after it.
I loved school!!!!!!!!! When I was little I loved to get saddle shoes or loafers for my new shoes. I remember it was cool to put your laces in these little spiral curls.
When I was a teacher the first day was so exciting and nerve racking at the same time. I wanted everything to be perfect and I had spent so long getting my classroom ready. I remember thinking...today is the day that I meet my class and set the tone for how the whole school year will go. Well, it was a great first day that led to a wonderful year of 4th grade.
OK-before I post about school memeories: your kids are super cute and tall ;) I laughed at the part with the blinding tennis shoes-SO TRUE! LOL Also, last night they showed a report that the Chinese girl who was one of 3 in question of being 16-they found documents showing she's actually 14!! That I believe. So, this could get interesting... ;)
OK, now for memories. I was always nervous for the first day of school. I am not a shy or quiet person, but for the most part that's how I was at school. Unbelievable you might say-but true. :) hee hee I loved learning and I loved dance, drama and chior but the social aspect of High School was not fun for me. I have a lot more self confidence now and would kind of like to see how much that would have changed my school experience.... lol!
I remember the year that school snuck up on my mom, too. We had our new clothes but she didn't get us any shoes! I went to school the first day wearing the same pair of ratty keds that I had worn all summer. My mom was mortified but we got to go shoes shopping after school. :)
